Commonly asked question: How Long do Indian weddings last?

How Long Does an Indian Wedding Last?

An Indian wedding typically lasts three to five days, depending on the families, traditions, and regional customs involved. Unlike Western weddings, Indian celebrations unfold as a series of meaningful events rather than one single ceremony.

  • Day 1–2: Pre-Wedding Rituals
These often include the Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet, and family gatherings. Each event has its own purpose—blessings, beautification, music, dance, and bonding between both sides.

  • Day 3: Wedding Ceremony
Whether it’s a Hindu mandap ceremony, a Muslim Nikkah, or a Sikh Anand Karaj, the main wedding day can span several hours and often includes multiple customs, photo sessions, outfit changes, and guest receptions.

  • Day 4–5: Post-Wedding Traditions
Rituals like the Vidaai, Doli, Walima, or Reception wrap up the celebrations, allowing both families to honor the newlyweds and host extended guest lists.

Some modern couples streamline the schedule into a 2-day weekend, while destination weddings may stretch into a full week. No matter the format, Indian weddings are known for being immersive, celebratory, and rich with culture.
